Q1: Why did Toshiba launch a voluntary battery pack replacement program for some of its computers?
A1: In consideration of the voluntary replacement program announced by Sony Corporation, we have decided to participate in Sony's voluntary replacement program of battery packs, in order to ensure customer satisfaction in using our computers.

Q2: Is there safety problem with Toshiba computers?
A2: Sony confirmed, and continues to confirm, that the subject Sony batteries used in certain Toshiba portable computers are not subject to the same problem that caused the recalls issued by certain computer manufacturers last year. The Toshiba system design and the protection system in those Toshiba portable computers are different than those of these certain manufacturers. We have confirmed that the system design issue identified by Sony in the overheating incidents in those manufacturers' computers is not present in certain Toshiba portable computers.

Considering the announcement by Sony Corporation, and to ensure customer satisfaction, Toshiba is participating in Sony's global battery pack voluntary replacement program and is offering Toshiba customers free replacement of certain battery packs identified by Sony.

Q5: How can I recognize a subject battery pack and check it?
A5: Toshiba has provided a utility to help determine if the battery pack installed in a portable computer may be subject to the replacement program. Please download and run the Toshiba's BatteryCheck utility software . If you cannot or do not want to download the utility, a subject battery pack can be identified visually by following the instructions in the Manual Battery Pack Identification document  document.

Q6: How can I replace the battery pack? Can a person not very familiar with computers replace the battery pack?
A6: Yes. The User's Manual for your Toshiba portable computer includes specific instructions on battery removal and installation. It is not difficult for a user to replace the battery pack by following these instructions.

Q7: Am I required to return the subject battery pack after it is replaced?
A7: Yes. Please make appointment and visit Toshiba Authorized Service Center for battery replacement and return your affected battery pack to the service center for proper recycling and/or disposal.

Q8: What should I do if the BatteryCheck utility does not seem to be working on my system?
A8: The utility does not work on a computer other than the subject models. If the utility does not work as expected on the subject models, you may choose to inspect your battery pack visually by removing it from the portable computer and examining the attached label.
